I've been really laying on the cadmiums here in Our Lady. A lot of the shadows I'm painting with my last tube of Cadmium Red Deep from Williamsburg's pre-Golden Paint days when Carl Plansky was at the helm.
The third panel of The Communion of the Saints will focus on Asia. This one will be more complicated, so I'm starting some studies early while I'm still working on the Africa panel. I'll be painting Our Lady of Vailankanni and St. Alphonsa Muttathupadathu. I think I'll likely go through a whole tube of cadmium red on the Sari.
My assistant and I were able to get the initial drawing onto the panel and I've started laying in the figures. The oil dries slowly on the steel, extending the open time in which I can work by more than a day.
