Curriculum Vitae
Scott Nelson Foster received his first instruction in drawing and painting from his uncle, Roland Giampaoli, and from his grandfather, Will Nelson growing up in Boise ID. From them he learned a variety of expressive and tightly controlled watercolor techniques.
Scott later studied with Jonathan Puls at Northwest Nazarene University. From Professor Puls, Scott learned to see; to translate his perceptions into 2 dimensional marks as well as to preserve the vitality and life of the subject during the painting process.
After graduating from Northwest Nazarene University, Scott studied with Chris Terry and Woody Shepherd at Utah State University. “Woody and Chris both placed a heavy emphasis on the physical process of painting,” Scott relates, “and the joys and struggles that one experiences to bring an image out of the surface.” Upon completion of his MFA, Scott joined the faculty at Utah State University to teach a variety of drawing and painting classes.
